The performance took part in the National Festival of Children’s Theatre in Bari, Maggio all’Infanzia, and was selected for the International Theatre Festival Competition / L’altro Festival in Lugano (Switzerland).
Freely inspired by the story Sister by Lia Levi and the book The Time of Whispered Words by Anne-Lise Grobéty, Like Sisters tells the story of two families: the Segres, with Loredana and Lucilla, and the Follieros, with little Bettina. Loredana and Bettina are inseparable friends, and their bond is so strong that Bettina suggests they become like blood sisters, certain that this will keep them united forever.Their serene childhood is shaken by the introduction of the racial laws: voices grow quieter, and people suddenly seem unable to greet each other while looking straight into each other’s eyes.
Through the children’s perspective, the performance addresses the Shoah with sensitivity. Also born from a theatre workshop with nine-year-old children, Like Sisters weaves together emotions, affection and historical memory, offering both young and adult audiences an opportunity to remember and reflect.
