The Festival of the Fourth of August represents one of the most significant historical, religious, and popular events of the Municipality of Costermano sul Garda, and this year marks its fifty-second edition. Organized by the Parish of Sant'Antonio Abate, with the valuable contribution of a large group of volunteers, the event takes place annually in August in the central square, the heart of the community life of the village, attracting residents, visitors, and tourists from not only the Garda area but also the entire province of Verona and the surrounding regions.
The origins of the event lie in the history of the community and date back to the second half of the 17th century, when the villagers organized a solemn votive procession as a thanks to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for having preserved the village from the terrible plague epidemic that affected much of northern Italy. This religious occasion has over the centuries transformed into a popular festival, never losing its original significance, evolving into an event with moments of spirituality, cultural initiatives, musical entertainment, enhancement of local gastronomic traditions, and activities dedicated to families.
The symbol of the Festival of the Fourth of August is undoubtedly its gastronomic offering, with the absolute and undisputed protagonist being the famous "anara col pien" prepared according to the ancient traditional recipe thanks to the collaboration of volunteers and those who safeguard the knowledge of local cuisine. Other typical Veronese dishes will also be present, accompanied by excellent local wines, along with various sweets and delicacies.
