The marantega Bepina is an old grumpy woman who practices witchcraft.
Ugly, disheveled, with a hooked nose, a trembling voice, she is dressed in dark rags that cover her legs down to her feet. She has cold, calloused hands, a wrinkled face, and eyes the color of copper, like those of owls. You can find her sitting outside her house, an old shack with balconies that are always ajar.
Sometimes she appears along with her twin, the marantega Clarice. The two merge and blend in a game of mirrors that entertains and surprises those who encounter them. Their resemblance is so striking that no one can truly say whether the maranteghe are two or one...
