Il Campiello is a lively ensemble comedy set in a popular Venetian square where the protagonists are the women of the people, their daughters to be married off, young broke men, elegant foreigners, and nosy neighbors. The coexistence in the campiello generates a series of hilarious quarrels, shifting alliances, romantic misunderstandings, and sharp banter.
Goldoni showcases with irony and affection the everyday life of a small community, filled with rivalries and solidarity, jealousy and desires. In this production, the Chioggian dialect replaces Venetian, enhancing the rhythm, color, and orality of the dialogues, making each line more direct and resonant. Through clashes and reconciliations, the characters are revealed in a lively and always relevant portrait of society. A celebration of words and gestures where comedy arises from reality, and theater becomes a mirror of life.
