The Great Theater is the fortunate and multi-decade winter prose review organized by the Municipality of Verona and the Teatro Stabile di Verona.
The Great Theater, which reaches its 39th edition this year, was born in 1986 to offer the city a winter theatrical season of high artistic level that would provide continuity to the performances of the Verona Theater Summer.
In this way, the Veronese audience has the opportunity to attend the same shows present in the programs of the major Italian cities.
Since always, the criterion that has characterized the choice of performances has been the search for the leading figures - both directors and actors - of the Italian scene.
Hence the use of the adjective "great," which over the years has happily defined the review, making it a high-caliber artistic and cultural event particularly loved by the Veronese public.
This year on stage eight shows selected from the best Italian and European productions, with particular attention to both great classics and contemporary dramaturgy.
Among the titles in the program: the Iliad by Homer, works by Nobel laureate Harold Pinter, texts by Marina Carr, as well as projects with a strong emotional impact such as Franciscus by and with Simone Cristicchi, Mein Kampf by Stefano Massini, and the theatrical adventure of Sherlock Holmes with Neri Marcorè.
