From June 12 to September 12, 2026, for a total of thirteen performances, the 104th Arena di Verona Opera Festival presents La Traviata, returning to the Arena in a new production that will bring to Verona a French icon: the Moulin Rouge.
An original and aesthetically impactful reading, with the signature of Scottish director Paul Curran, which transports the audience to early 1900s Paris, a meeting place of artistic and intellectual fervor, with an accurate historical reconstruction that will not renounce spectacularity.
The three-act opera by Giuseppe Verdi, with a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, is set in the bohemian Paris of the late 1800s and tells the love story between the worldly woman Violetta Valery and Alfredo Germont. Under pressure from Alfredo's father, Giorgio, and with no way out, the woman writes a heartfelt letter to Alfredo explaining her longing for beloved Paris. Alfredo, enraged, swears at her in front of everyone, throwing money at her feet. Once he learns the truth, the man rushes to ask her forgiveness, but she, suffering from tuberculosis, after seeing him for the last time, dies.
