Strong banks, pleasant sea breezes, soft sounds and noises: this is what you will find in Ca' Tiepolo in Porto Tolle, the starting point of the route that leads to the heart of the Po Delta.
Climb the right bank of the Po di Venezia, the main branch of the river, and follow it to Tolle where you will proceed towards Scardovari, a fishing village and home to a large fish market. After passing Bonelli, a hamlet with delightful traditional one-storey houses with large dice-shaped fireplaces, you will reach Barricata Beach, a resort frequented in summer by tourists looking for relaxation in unspoilt nature.
Man has always been able to capture the best of these amphibious environments. In the valleys, fishermen raise fine mussels and fish for sea bream, sea bass and eels; while in the countryside, farmers grow rice, cereals and vegetables. Passing on the right bank of the Po della Donzella, you go up the river until you reach Ca' Vendramin. Here you can visit the Regional Reclamation Museum which is housed in a draining pump from the beginning of the last century. From here you return to the starting point.
The route follows ordinary roads for long stretches; the wind and long sunny days can create some difficulties for cyclists. The route can be shortened with a detour to the town of Ca’ Mello, or extended by adding a visit to the towns of Pila or Polesine Camerini.
