The area around Cortina d'Ampezzo and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo offers a truly unique setting for cycling; every pedal stroke is made easier by the sensation of taking in incredible, extraordinary, unique, and unforgettable views.
The proposed route winds through the heart of the Northern Dolomites, recognized by UNESCO as a “World Heritage Site.” The route starts in Cortina d'Ampezzo (1,211 meters), taking the steep initial climb up the Passo Tre Croci. Just below the village of Rio Gere (where the Cristallo and Faloria ski lifts begin), the series of curves gives way to long, rideable straights.
You reach the 1,805-meter summit of the pass, nestled between the Cristallo Group and Sorapis, offering a spectacular view of the rugged Marmarole range. After descending for about three kilometers, take a left onto State Road 48 bis, which climbs to Misurina until you enter the municipality of Auronzo di Cadore.
After about two kilometers of climbing, at an elevation of 1,756 meters, you can glimpse the breathtaking beauty of Misurina, whose lake is aptly called “The Pearl of the Dolomites.”
After passing through the small tourist town, take the paved municipal road to the right that climbs to the Auronzo Mountain Hut and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo (2,333 meters). Epic chapters in cycling history have been written along these seven kilometers of ascent, with no fewer than seven stage finishes of the Giro d’Italia.
