Two Roman roads in Veneto
The Via Claudia Augusta is one of the great Roman roads that connected the Adriatic to Central Europe. Built for trade and military connections, today it is a path that allows you to cross territories marked by over two thousand years of history.
The Claudia Augusta starts from Bavaria, crosses Trentino-Alto Adige, then splits in Trento creating two variants: the "Padana" and the "Altinate".
The first descends towards the province of Verona, following the Adige valley to the historic centre of the Scaliger city where its Roman heritage is revealed. From here, the route crosses the Po Valley, among countryside, vineyards and traces of ancient centuries, where the landscape still retains the imprint of Roman organisation.
The second enters Veneto through the Valsugana, crossing the province of Vicenza, between foothills and hilly areas. The trail unfolds between historic villages, parishes and Venetian villas, following ancient roads that reveal a more discreet Roman presence but deeply integrated into the territory up to the Venetian Lagoon.
Whichever of the two variants you travel, the Via Claudia Augusta will prove to be a route full of history, nature and surprises to be discovered one stage at a time.
