From Germany to Rome, via Veneto
The Via Romea Germanica is an ancient road that connects northern Germany to Rome, crossing Austria and several Italian regions. Today it is a European Cultural Route, a symbol of faith, history and slow tourism.
Veneto represents a central stage of the journey: entering from the province of Vicenza, the route follows the Brent river and crosses villages and towns that preserve hidden treasures; in Bassano del Grappa, the famous Ponte degli Alpini and historic shops reveal centuries of tradition; Padua is the cultural and spiritual stage, with the Basilica of Sant'Antonio, its cycle of UNESCO frescoes and the porticoes that become points of rest and contemplation; then it's onwards to Monselice, skimming the Euganean Hills, up to the plain passing through Rovigo, as the path crosses Venetian villas, ancient churches and countryside that change colour with the seasons.
