The value of the testimonies of ‘those who leave and those who arrive’: the Museum of Venetian Emigration in Belluno brings together stories of migration. Whether Italians abroad or foreigners welcomed into our country, the museum’s aim is to recount the stories and trials of those who left their homeland in search of work and a better life.
In particular, it recounts the lives of ice-cream makers and miners: the two professions that enjoyed the greatest success amongst Belluno’s migrants. Drawing on the experiences of these people, an interactive exhibition has been created, featuring video interviews, photographs and historical documents, exploring what migrants from different eras and nationalities have in common.
The museum also serves as the starting point for a route spanning the entire province, comprising museums and other sites where visitors can delve deeply into the traditions and migration histories of Belluno’s culture.
The museum is open to schools, offering a range of educational workshops tailored to the students’ ages.
