The halls of the Museo del Maglio of Breganze recount the world of blacksmiths. Among the various exhibits, a historical record from 1635, year in which the owners of the Power Hammer required the use of a water course, a necessary element for the functioning of the impressive tool.
In addition to the machinery and tools used by blacksmiths, the museum owns a rich archive with documents of their long history. Because of such completeness of exhibited material and documentation, the Museo del Maglio is among the most important of its kind in Europe.
The museum also houses il brolo (the orchard): a large garden where you can see the water activate the wheel that operates the hammer. Under the shade of the trees, temporary exhibitions and other cultural events are held on summer evenings. The museum is open only by appointment (evening hours and weekends included).
The mallet is a huge hammer with an oscillating movement driven by a hydraulic wheel. The head of the hammer falls on the anvil, beating and shaping the white-hot iron being worked.
