The islands of Lido di Venezia and Pellestrina mark the watershed between the Adriatic Sea and the Lagoon. Cycling along the cycle paths of these islands allows you to look out towards the open sea on one side and the lagoon on the other. The bell towers, the domes of the cities of Venice and Chioggia, shine in the background. This experience alone is enough to justify your choice of this bike tour.
Starting from the south, take some time to visit the historic centre of Chioggia with its original fishbone shape. On the Corso stands the bell tower of the Church of Sant'Andrea where the oldest clock in the world is still working. Life in the city is always busy among the streets, shops, stalls and taverns. The cycle path that circles the Laguna del Lusenzo between Chioggia and Sottomarina is really beautiful.
From Piazzetta Vigo you can take line 11 of the vaporetto towards the island of Pellestrina where you will first meet the town with its sixteenth and seventeenth century houses, and then the village of Portosecco. Once you arrive at the northern end of the island, another short ride awaits you (again on vaporetto line 11) to reach the Oasi degli Alberoni. Then the cycling starts again, on the road that runs along the lagoon, up to the historic centre of Malamocco, where you can breathe in a typically Venetian atmosphere among the streets and squares.
The route continues north, among the Art Nouveau buildings that host the famous Venice Film Festival, passing through the Jewish Cemetery to the Church of San Nicolò, the arrival point of your trip.
The route follows a dedicated cycle path, entirely tarmacked. It is recommended that you follow the instructions to walk with bicycles through the pedestrian areas. It is not allowed to ride along the Murazzi. Easy route: suitable for families with children.
