The cycle path traces the ancient trade routes of river and land that connect Venice with Trieste.
Starting from Venice, we recommend you to reach the beaches of Cavallino Treporti along the North Lagoon of Venice (signage with code I2). At the gates of Mestre, the ancient circular tower of Tessera-Mestre is quite striking. Don’t miss the visit to the vast archaeological area of Quarto d'Altino. The route continues on the right bank of the Sile river (signage with codes I4 - E4).
The next stage (signage with code I3) crosses the beaches of Jesolo and Eraclea between large agricultural areas and coastal pine forests. Riding along cycle paths on embankments of artificial canals, attention is drawn to the large hydraulic structures that allow river navigation and the large waterworks that, for more than a century, have guaranteed complete reclamation of the lands.
After admiring the historic centre of Caorle with the fishermen's island and the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Angelo, you can head north along cycle paths that lead to the archaeological city of Concordia Sagittaria and the historic Venetian centre of Portogruaro.
The next stage will take you back towards the sea, immersing you in the vast landscapes of Brussa and Valle Vecchia in the direction of Bibione. Near the ancient lighthouse at the mouth of the Tagliamento river, a bike and boat service allows you to reach Lignano Sabbiadoro where the dense network of coastal canals continues as far as Grado. The last stage before reaching Trieste is on the Karst limestone plateau.
The route follows a stretch of the Eurovelo 8 European cycle path and is fully signposted with cycle route signs.
