For the first time, the Mercatali Galleries will host on January 31 and February 1 the event dedicated entirely to the flagship product of the Valpolicella denomination: Amarone Opera Prima.
The event, which continues the tradition of the Anteprima Amarone event, has reached its twenty-second edition. A unique opportunity to discover and taste the 2021 vintage of the great Red of Valpolicella, along with a selected year from each producer.
The Amarone, the "Great Red" protagonist of the event, will be accompanied for those who desire by delicious gastronomic tastings inspired by local tradition.
King of Valpolicella, a refined meditation wine, Amarone is a passito universally considered among the finest wines in the world, number one among Veronese wines.
According to tradition, the name Amarone to indicate the Recioto Amaro, or Secco, was born in the spring of 1936 at the Valpolicella Social Winery in Arbizzano, thanks to the fortunate discovery of a barrel of Recioto forgotten in the cellar, and while drawing the “scampà” Recioto from the fermentation barrel, the cellar master Adelino Lucchese exclaimed with great and enthusiastic surprise: “This is not an Amaro, it is an Amarone!”
