The Villa Bassi Rathgeb Museum hosts an important exhibition dedicated to one of the absolute protagonists of 20th-century photography who significantly contributed to the definition of the language of photojournalism.

From 1920s Europe to the United States, where he moved in 1935, Eisenstaedt became one of the most authoritative contributors to Life magazine, producing over 2,500 photo essays and more than 90 covers. His work helped build the visual imagery of the 20th century, capturing some of the most significant moments in contemporary history.

Among the most famous images is the shot V-J Day in Times Square from August 14, 1945 – the kiss between a sailor and a nurse during the celebrations for the end of World War II – which has become a universal icon.
But his journey extends far beyond: from documenting Europe between the two wars to international reports, and portraits of great figures in politics, science, and entertainment, including Albert Einstein, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Marilyn Monroe, and Sophia Loren. Among the most notable faces are those of Bill Clinton with his daughter Chelsea and wife Hillary Rodham Clinton, Roy Disney, and physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Eisenstaedt spent his life capturing humanity in every form, establishing a direct and immediate relationship with his subjects.
