What do a masterpiece by Giotto, an abstract painting, and the image of a cell or a neural network have in common? More than one might imagine.
This surprising question gives rise to the meeting with Sylvain Bellenger and Giovanni Panebianco, dedicated to The Earth is Blue Like an Orange. The Mystery of Research, the book-catalog born from the exhibition created by VIMM to celebrate thirty years of biomedical research.
Curator of the exhibition and an internationally renowned art historian, Bellenger guides the audience on a journey through artistic and scientific images, showing how both can arise from the same impulse: the curiosity to explore what we do not yet know. The forms of the body, cellular structures, and neural architectures thus become unexpected aesthetic experiences, capable of dialoguing with the history of art and the great Italian cultural tradition.
Alongside him, Giovanni Panebianco, the protagonist of the editorial and institutional project of VIMM, will help to narrate the genesis and significance of a work that celebrates research as a heritage of knowledge and the future.
Because sometimes, to see further, one must first learn to look differently.
