At first glance, it may just seem like a trek to discover the majestic peaks of the Dolomites, but this trail goes much deeper: it tells the story of everyday life at high altitude, celebrates the stories of farmers, visits mountain huts and refuges, immerses you in the fragrances of the vast meadows, echoes to the rhythm of the cowbells worn by grazing cattle and delights you with delicacies produced right here in these valleys.
The route starts in Padola and passes through some of the most authentic areas of Comelico, alternating between coniferous forests, valleys, panoramic mountain passes and extensive high-altitude meadows. From Vallon Popera to the pastures of Monte QuaternĂ and through to Val Visdende and the Strada delle Malghe, each stage reveals a different dimension of the mountains, where nature intertwines with human presence without ever losing its balance.
The malghe - the mountain huts - are a constant presence along the trail. During the summer, they become places of work and hospitality, where you can discover life on the mountain pastures, taste traditional products and spend the night in the refuges dotted along the route. Mountain dairies, typical barns and small villages animate a trail that projects the image of a living mountain, far away from the beaten track and still deeply connected with its identity.
