From October 16 to December 19, 2026, a journey through maps, photographs, documents, and cinema, at the Cittadella della Cultura in Lendinara and the Museo dei Grandi Fiumi in Rovigo.
The historical-documentary exhibition “Chronicles of Water. Men and Rivers between Myth and History” will be inaugurated on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Cittadella della Cultura in Lendinara, and will be open until December 19.
The exhibition narrates the deep bond between water and the history of communities, with particular attention to Polesine: a land where rivers, canals, land reclamation, and floods have shaped the landscape and influenced ways of living and working. The title ideally references Gian Antonio Cibotto and his Chronicles of the Flood, dedicated to the major breach of the Po in 1951.
Spanning five centuries of history and culture, the journey leads from representations of water in classical mythology and the biblical narrative to cartography from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century, culminating in photographs and documents that testify to the transformations of the territory. The images preserved in the archives of the Cittadella della Cultura provide views of the Adige and the Adigetto and scenes of life along the banks, accompanied by books and materials dedicated to land reclamation and flood events.
The project also unfolds at the Museo dei Grandi Fiumi in Rovigo, where the Flumina room will host a section dedicated to cartography, connected to a route featuring archaeological finds and documents from the permanent exhibition.
