Descrizione formattata

Villa Paruta, located in the territory of the Euganean Hills, represents one of the most interesting testimonies of late Renaissance Venetian architecture. It was built in the second half of the sixteenth century by the noble Venetian family Paruta, of Lucchese origin, a family that achieved economic and political prestige in the Serenissima through trade and notable figures such as the historian and diplomat Paolo Paruta.

The villa is today the only surviving building of a larger rural and noble complex that included an oratory, mentioned in the pastoral visits of 1747, a barchessa, the house of the gastaldo, a guesthouse, and a dovecote tower. The ensemble constituted a typical agricultural and residential center of the Venetian nobility, immersed in the landscape of the Euganean Hills.

The building stands out for its elegant compact structure in the shape of a parallelepiped, enriched by elements of considerable architectural value. On the main side, there is a seventeenth-century portico with Doric columns that creates a striking asymmetry with the refined hanging loggia in Ionic style. For its formal characteristics, the villa is traditionally attributed to Andrea Palladio or one of his close collaborators, a hypothesis that enhances its historical and artistic value.

Inside, there are preserved frescoes from the Venetian school of the sixteenth century, testimony to the cultural richness and decorative taste of the patrician residences of the time. Surrounded by the wine-producing landscape of the Euganean Hills, Villa Paruta remains a precious legacy of the relationship between architecture, agriculture, and noble life in the Republic of Venice.
