There are places that are observed. And places that are lived, until they become part of you. Genius Loci is born from this idea: to transform Cortina d'Ampezzo into a laboratory of research, encounter, and creation, where contemporary art dialogues with nature, memory, and the identity of the Dolomites.
Conceived by Valentina Chiminelli Parolin and Nicola Parolin, with the curation of Clara Pacifico, founder of NM Contemporary – Monaco, the project comes to life in the historic Villa Il Castelletto, which exceptionally opens its doors to the public on Sunday, August 24, 2026.
Seven artists – Matteo Basilé, Massimo Catalani, Giacomo Costa, Matteo Sanna, Vincenzo Marsiglia, Antonio Barbieri, and Roberto Maria Lino – have experienced the territory as a true artist residency, drawing inspiration from the forests, mountains, traditions, and the encounter with the Ampezzana community.
The result is an exhibition path that weaves together photography, painting, video, sculpture, installation, augmented reality, and digital experimentation, offering a novel vision of the genius loci: the authentic spirit of the place.
More than an exhibition, Genius Loci is an invitation to look at Cortina with new eyes, where art, landscape, and people blend into an experience capable of leaving a profound mark.
