The Harlem Gospel Choir is the most famous Gospel Choir in America, as well as one of the longest-running.
Since 1986, Allen Bailey and his choir, made up of the most beautiful voices of Harlem and New York City, have been traveling the world sharing the joy of faith with the public and raising funds to donate to good works.
We are talking about the only gospel choir in the world to have performed for two Popes (John Paul II and Benedict XVI), two Presidents of the United States of America (Carter and Obama), the Royal Family, Nelson Mandela and in numerous events of global importance .
The Harlem Gospel Choir fights, through its music, to create a better understanding of African-American culture and Gospel music, therefore seeking to share its values and messages with thousands of people around the world. Deeply rooted in the history of African slavery in America, gospel music can be found throughout the 1700s when enslaved Africans brought their African musical heritage to America, combining it with the new Christian faith.
This unique tradition forever changed music as it was known. Blues, Soul and Rock 'n' Roll all originate from black gospel.
