Descrizione lunga

Il Grande Teatro is the long-running and highly successful winter theatre season organised by Verona City Council and the Teatro Stabile di Verona.

Il Grande Teatro, now in its 40th edition, was launched in 1986 to offer the city a winter theatre season of the highest artistic calibre, providing a continuation of the performances from the Estata Teatrale Veronese.

In this way, the Veronese public has the opportunity to see the same productions featured on the programmes of Italy’s major cities.

The criterion that has always distinguished the selection of productions has been the search for the leading figures – both directors and actors – on the Italian theatre scene.

Hence the use of the adjective ‘great’, which over the years has aptly characterised the festival, making it an event of great artistic and cultural significance that is particularly cherished by the Veronese public.

On stage this year are eight productions selected from among the finest Italian and European productions, with a particular focus on both the great classics and contemporary drama.

Among the titles on the programme are: *Il Berretto a Sonagli* by Luigi Pirandello, *Richard III* by William Shakespeare, *Mother Courage and Her Children* by Bertolt Brecht, as well as projects with a strong emotional impact such as *La guerra com’è*, written and performed by Elio Germano and Teho Teardo, and *Lo zar* by Stefano Massini.
