Italy Germany. Painting and sculpture between the 19th and 20th centuries.

The route spans two centuries of cultural relations between the two countries, with a particular focus on the twentieth century, when the dialogue among Italian and German artists, intellectuals, and architect-designers became one of the driving forces of European modernity.

The exhibition reconstructs a dense fabric of journeys, meetings, influences, and comparisons that transformed the language of art and, more broadly, the cultural vision of Europe. The show is divided into chapters corresponding to the most significant moments of this osmosis, in relation to the artistic, political, and social history of the two countries, and brings to light episodes, key figures, and fundamental events.

The route explores the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, highlighting how new ideas and revolutions in artistic languages emerged from these reciprocal exchanges among artists, intellectuals, and writers. At the same time, these dialogues reflected the anxieties and hopes of an age marked by deep crises, often anticipating the falls and subsequent rebirths that characterized European history in those two centuries.
