Just a few hours before the opening of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina 2026, Cortina d'Ampezzo welcomes an exceptional event: a meeting with Gustav Thöni, an absolute legend of alpine skiing and a symbol of an era that forever changed the history of Italian sports.
On Wednesday February 4, 2026, at 6 PM, at the Grand Hotel Savoia, the series of Olimpic Stories by A Mountain of Books opens, with the Italian premiere of Thöni's autobiography, A Trail in the White. My Life on the Slopes, from the Blue Avalanche to Legend (Rizzoli), in dialogue with Francesco Chiamulera.
Olympic champion, protagonist of the legendary Blue Avalanche, winner of four overall World Cups, Gustav Thöni retraces his extraordinary human and sporting journey: from his childhood on the snow of South Tyrol to international triumphs, from memorable duels with Ingemar Stenmark to the most intimate and difficult moments of his career. An authentic portrait emerges of a reserved and tenacious man, capable of staying true to himself even when he was on top of the world.
The meeting inaugurates in Cortina a series of events that will accompany the Dolomites throughout the duration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina 2026.
