This easy route starts from Praciadelàn, just above the village of Calalzo di Cadore, and follows the CAI path no. 255 (which is accessible for off-road vehicles in summer). The route goes up the long scree slope of Val d'Oten, a long valley that separates the Marmarole mountain chain from the imposing Antelao massif, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The trail crosses the Diassa stream, which during the year changes from being dry to a gushing torrent of water, while in winter it is often frozen. At the bottom of the valley you will find the Capanna degli Alpini, a refuge that is open only in summer.
Although somewhat challenging, it is definitely worth visiting the Pile Waterfall, which can be reached in 15 minutes along a narrow ravine cut out by the water. At around 25 meters high, the waterfall spouts from a narrow gorge. During winter it is picturesque, and in spring it becomes spectacular, overflowing with the abundant waters of the thaw and in the summer season.
Val d'Oten: a large area, still wild and in certain places inaccessible, is a hot pick for hikers and lovers of nature who like spending time outdoors.
