A very long trail that crosses Europe and the Veneto
The Via Romea Strata is a historic road that links Europe to the heart of Italy, crossing Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria, along trails marked by centuries of history and traditions. It is a network of ancient roads that enters Italy from Tarvisio and continues through six regions towards the Eternal City.
In Veneto, the Romea Strata is mainly made up of two main routes: the Romea Allemagna and the Romea Annia. The first descends from Friuli Venezia Giulia and reaches Concordia Sagittaria, an ancient crossroads of roads and cultures, where you can still breathe the legacy of a past of commercial trading and pilgrimages; the second tells with intensity the history and archaeology of Veneto, following the ancient Roman and medieval roads, crossing Quarto d'Altino, Noale, Padua, Monselice and Badia Polesine, before reaching Emilia-Romagna.
Walking the Via Romea Strata in Veneto means immersing yourself in a landscape that represents living archaeology and changing nature: ancient Roman testimonies, Romanesque churches, medieval bridges and roads marked by the passage of those who, over the centuries, have chosen to set out on a journey.
