Mud therapy
For some people taking a holiday means fun and sport and for others it is the pursuit of well-being. However, you can find both at the spas in the Veneto Region. There are extraordinary healing properties in the application of various therapeutic, aesthetic and "getting back into shape" treatments found in the spas. Among the different types of applications, mud treatment is excellent thanks to the unique properties found in the mud that is used.
Due to its unique anti-inflammatory and therapeutic properties, the mud of the Terme Euganee boasts a European patent (DOC ripened mud). The secret is in the water that starts to flow from the uncontaminated basins of the Alps, and after a long underground journey during which it is enriched with particularly beneficial minerals, it resurfaces in the area of the Terme Euganee at a temperature of 87 °. This unique water is at the base of the ripening, conservation and regeneration process of the thermal mud.
From a microbiological point of view, the mud of the Euganean area is "ripened mud" and is able to guarantee proven and durable therapeutic effects after undergoing a series of transformations resulting in the combined action of thermal water, clay and microorganisms.
Balneoterapia
It is one of the most widespread spa treatments and is often associated with the application of mud and massaging.
But what is balneotherapy? This is bathing in tubs with or without whirlpool, where the therapeutic action is determined by the temperature of the water and the chemical composition of the water itself. Recommended for inflammatory problems and for dermatosis, this therapy is often used together with mud-bath treatment.
At the Euganee Spa, balneotherapy avails itself of the use of the salty-bromine-iodine spa water combined with heat to allow effective rehabilitative care. The therapy is especially recommended for painful syndromes and muscle contractures, for rehabilitation programmes after traumas, fractures and surgical interventions, to resolve chronic inflammatory processes.
In the spa centre of Recoaro Terme, in the province of Vicenza, you are offered various types of therapeutic baths. The ochre bath is very famous, based on strongly mineralized water, that is effective not so much for the absorption of substances through the skin, but as for the stimulation that mineral ions exert on the nerve endings of the skin.
The spa centre of Bibione has a balneotherapy unit suitable for the treatment of rheumatic and orthopaedic illnesses. The temperature of the water and salts dissolved therein ensure therapeutic efficacy.
Canyoning
Often confused with other sports, canyoning consists in descending rivers clinging to a rope, where the obstacles are small waterfalls, slides and rock recesses.
This is not only an extreme sport, as the routes have different levels of difficulty; the important thing is to know how to swim and have the urge to indulge for a few hours in strong emotions, but in safe conditions though, always.
Here some suggestions for your canyoning experience.
Rafting
Rowing on a raft down a stream or a river between splashes and lots of fun: this is rafting. In Veneto, rafting fans can practise this sport in the Adige and Brenta rivers in total safety, thanks to the many local rafting associations.
In the Vicentine town of Valstagna, along the river Brenta, there are plenty of different rafting opportunities. We begin with the simplest routes that cater to families, like easy rafting, up to the most demanding routes, like the adventure or extreme, where in addition to the breathtaking descents, rafters can enjoy dives into the water and climb their way back on rocks and streams.
Moving to Verona, the Adige river offers the chance of relaxing excursions. The calm water stream offers an experience for those who simply want to admire the city of Romeo and Juliet from a different perspective, passing under the many bridges. Near the city, in the Adige park, the local associations organise itineraries that combine hiking and whitewater rafting to discover the picturesque river environment. Rafting trips are also organised in the province of Verona. From the small town of Dolcè, you can embark on a path in an environment surrounded by greenery, where the river bends in numerous curves through imposing cliffs.
Hang-gliding and Paragliding
If you are seeking a new and enchanting way to get to know the mountains and experience them from a unique perspective, why not try looking up? Gliding in a hang-glider or paraglider is undoubtedly an experience that will amaze you!
No special skills or experience is needed because the most simple method of approaching this sport is tandem flying which means being led by a skilled pilot. The take-off is the most thrilling moment: the pilot will provide you with all the necessary information for a good departure. Once harnessed and attached to the sail, all you need is to do is wait for an ideal gust of wind and take a few steps as if taking a brief run-up. You push off from the ground and find yourself floating in mid-air in an instant. Depending on the availability of the instructors, this experience can also be shared with friends.
However the paraglider is the only way of allowing man to fly almost like a bird. Spread out on your front, with the landscape flowing by beneath you. You can find the direction which you like best by just shifting your weight slightly. Note that paragliders are fast and therefore require a great deal of training from the pilot.
In the area between Romano d'Ezzelino, Borso and Crespano, in the province of Treviso, the practice of this sport is particularly appreciated and well-known, so much so that the Grappa massif area is visited by schools groups from all over Europe. The international hang-glider and paraglider competition with the best pilots in the world takes place each year in Borso del Grappa. Fantastic views can be enjoyed above the Vicenza Pre-Alps, Asiago and the plateau of the Seven Municipalities, while in the province of Belluno, in Feltre, you can fly over Monte Avena with the possibility of participating in the paragliding courses that run from March to November.
Lessinia
When the snow covers this plateau, the fun multiplies: walks among enchanted scenery, snowy trails to trek with snowshoes and thrilling ski mountaineering.
But the real highlight of the Lessinia Regional Natural Park in winter is cross-country skiing. For enthusiasts of narrow skis, the Centro Fondo Alta Lessinia, with its renowned Translessinia slope, offers perfect routes for both relaxing hikes and competitive challenges.
The slopes of the area wind between endless horizons, offering medium-easy tracks ideal for both classic and skating techniques. There are two starting points: Malga San Giorgio, which is perfect for lessons and practice in the wide cross-country plain, and Bocca di Selva, with easier access to Translessinia, ideal for long excursions immersed in nature.
